Long Beach, CA – A 27-year-old suspect was taken down with a less-lethal round and a fur missile after attacking an officer and stealing his gun (video below.)
A Long Beach police officer responded to a call of a suspicious person when he made contact with the suspect at about 10 pm Wednesday night, KTTV reported.
“He made contact with a male adult subject and detained him while he investigated a possible stolen vehicle,” Long Beach police spokesperson Arantxa Chavarria said. “During the incident, the officer was assaulted, there was a struggle, and the suspect was able to take the officer’s firearm.”
The man then fled the scene and carjacked a woman’s vehicle nearby.
Officers pursued the stolen vehicle and ultimately cornered the suspect, who then barricaded himself inside the vehicle.
He eventually exited the vehicle. Video footage of the scene showed the suspect defiantly cross his arms while he stood outside of the stolen car.
SWAT officers and a K-9 officer responded to the scene.
Officers shot the man with a less-lethal round, which instantly doubled him over, dropping him to the ground.
Then the fur missile was launched, who took a bite out of the criminal.
The suspect was taken into custody before being rushed to a hospital for medical evaluation. He was treated for minor injuries, Pratt said.
The officer who was assaulted during the initial contact sustained moderate injuries, and was hospitalized.
“He’s pretty shaken up, but he’s doing well,” Pratt said.
Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect, but reported he is a Long Beach resident.
